  • Shaik Rasheed is an Indian cricketer who is known for being the vice captain of the U-19 Indian cricket team that won the U-19 Cricket World Cup in February 2022.
  • When he started training at the Prasad Cricket Academy in Hyderabad which was fifty kilometres away from his house, his father, Shaik Balisha, used to take him to the coaching every day on his scooter because of which he had to leave his job. After this, they moved back to Guntur.
  • When he was eight years old, he got a chance to meet cricketer VVS Laxman, and he received a tournament award for a match in Andhra Pradesh.

  • According to him, he said that his family could not afford the huge fees of the cricket academies in Guntur. Later, he got admission to the ACA’s residential cricket academy and even started living there. In the academy, he was trained by coach J Krishna Rao who was impressed by Rasheed’s game. In an interview, his coach talked about him and said,

    He must have been 7 or 8 and was facing our U-16 bowlers quite comfortably. He looked so composed. Deep down I knew that he has talent and must nurture him delicately.”

  • In 2020, he was initially rejected at the U-14 and U-16 levels in the Andhra team. Two years after training, he was selected for the Andhra U-14 team.

  • In 2018, he was selected for the Vijay Merchant Trophy where he scored 674 runs at 168.50 including three centuries.
  • In 2020, he was selected for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy where he became the second-highest run-getter and scored 376 runs in six matches.
  • In December 2021, he became a member of the U-19 Asia Cup where he scored 90 runs on 103 balls against Bangladesh in the semi-final.
  • He has played other U-19 ODIs against various teams including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, West Indies, and Australia.
  • In November 2021, he was the captain of the India B team that won four matches in the Challengers Trophy.

  • Rasheed scored 50 runs in the finale of the U-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 against England. In an interview, he talked about his feelings after winning the World Cup and said,

    Winning the World Cup U-19 title is memorable as it has made my parents proud. They have sacrificed a lot in their lives to see me in this position. I will never let them down.”

  • He did not participate in the U-19 World Cup during the initial matches as he tested positive for COVID-19 in January 2022.
  • After winning the U-19 Cricket World Cup, he received an Rs. 10 lakh cash reward from the Andra Cricket Association for his performance in the U-19 Cricket World Cup.
