ControversiesIn October 2019, Shiv Nadar was invited as the chief guest for the annual Vijayadashami function organized by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He gave a ceremonial speech where Shiv Nadar talked about his Shiv Nadar Foundation and its initiatives where he mentioned his projects. During this speech, he made a point of inclusion of meat in the mid-day meals provided to the students, which went against the Hindutva organization's belief systems. He said-
“My daughter is involved in this project (Shiksha). She did something that you won’t like. She forced them (children in schools) to eat chicken for their protein intake. Children in western parts of Uttar Pradesh are generally short. There is a need for better nutrition. People in those parts generally don’t eat rice. They have rotis. However, you can only have it when it is fresh out of the fire. You can’t store it and have it cold.”

He was explaining how government alone cannot handle the problem of malnutrition and the inclusion of meat depending on the region could improve the growth of children. The problem of providing decent, nutritious meals for children is caused due to inadequate funding for schools and programs by the state governments. [5]TheWire
