- She grew up in a family of farmers.
- Soon after completing her education, Vanathi Srinivasan began practising law in 1993. She worked for Shri. B. S. Gnanadesikan, a senior advocate and former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President.
- She has practised law in the Chennai High Court for more than two decades.
- Vanathi Srinivasan has served as Standing Counsel for Southern Railway and the Union Government.
- From 1988 to 1993, she was a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
- She is a former board member of the Central Board of Film Certification.
- Vanathi Srinivasan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1993 as a party worker. She has held various positions in the BJP since 1999.
- In 2010, she attended the US State Development for Young Leadership Programme as a guest.
- She contested the Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections from the Coimbatore constituency in 2011 on the ticket of the BJP.
