• After completing his formal education, Varun Mitra started working at an export house. However, he later left his export house job to become an actor.

• In 2012, he went to Mumbai for a two week trip. While staying there, he auditioned for a few roles and later got selected by ‘Kwan,’ a talent management agency.

• After making his debut as a host for the travel TV show ‘2 For The Road’ (2012), he hosted the travel TV show ‘Good Drives’ (2013), which was broadcast on NDTV GoodTimes. The TV show was sponsored by Tata Safari.

• He rose to fame in 2014 following his appearance in a television commercial for Amazon Kindle Paperwhite.

• For filming the advertisement, he had to travel to Sri Lanka where he shot with native children. The children there neither could speak nor understand Hindi or English languages, still they became friends with him during the shoot. The kids became so attached to him that they made handcrafted greeting cards to give him on his birthday, which coincidently falls on the last day of the shoot.

• His debut film ‘Kaash’ was featured in the 2014 Tokyo film festival.

• In 2015, he appeared alongside Freida Pinto in a promotional short film named ‘Rangeen’ for the clothing brand ‘Free People.’

• In 2016, he was featured opposite Rhea Chakraborty in the Bollywood film ‘Jalebi.’ He essayed the lead role of Dev Mathur in the film.

• He did his first catwalk at the Wills India Men’s Fashion Week, where he walked the ramp for designer Gaurav Gupta.

• In the same year, Mitra appeared in the web series ‘Rakshak: India’s Braves Chapter 1,’ which streamed on Amazon miniTV. In the series, he portrayed Lt. Triveni Singh, who martyred in a terrorist attack on Jammu Railway Station on 2 January 2004.
