Some Lesser Known Facts About Vikas Nath

  • Vikas Nath was born and brought up in New Delhi before moving to London.
  • Nath had a long career of around 25 years in international finance, including UBS, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, and HSBC, before entering the hospitality sector.
  • After a finance career, Vikas moved to the hospitality sector and became Director at Termdeal Limited, a company that owns high-end Indian restaurants, most notably the Michelin-starred Benares Restaurant & Bar in London’s Mayfair. The restaurants across the UK and Europe.
  • On 15 January 2024, Vikas Nath got involved in a high-profile legal incident at the Post Mayfair club Annabel’s in London.
  • According to the report, Vikas Nath was seated with a woman at the rooftop garden bar of Annabel’s private club in Mayfair. A staff member noticed that when the woman briefly left her drink with Nath, he took a small liquid bottle from his pocket. Using a straw, he drew liquid from the bottle and added it to her margarita.
  • The bottle seemed to contain vanilla extract, but it actually contained a dangerous substance known as a ‘date-rape drug,’ also known as gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), a colourless industrial solvent that, when ingested, is rapidly converted by the body into gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB). This conversion can cause effects ranging from drowsiness to memory loss, unconsciousness, and, in severe cases, dangerous respiratory depression.
  • As that woman had been working with Annabel since the age of 18, the staff replaced the woman’s drink with a normal beverage and warned her that her original drink had been spiked.
  • Before the police arrived, Vikas disposed of the bottle in the toilet.
  • Police also recovered a GBL bottle from his house. In a police interview after the incident in January 2024, Vikas Nath said he had brought the gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) for cleaning his car, and had been told by a friend that it could also be drunk with alcohol as a “relaxant”.
  • During the investigation, police also found a motion camera in his room that automatically recorded, and he admitted to having used it to “covertly” record sexual activities.
  • In February 2024, Vikas Nath appeared at Southwark Crown Court. A trial date was set for February 2026.

  • In February 2026, during the trial, Vikas Nath admitted to spiking the woman’s drink but denied the allegations that it was to have sex with her. He has said that he spiked the drink to help the woman “relax”.
  • At the court woman said she was shocked to hear what Vikas Nath did to her. She said

I remember vividly defending Mr Nath, saying ‘There is no way he could do that’. I remember sending him a message saying ‘I’m sorry, I don’t know what’s happening’. Because I felt it was my fault. I didn’t want him in trouble, I didn’t believe it.”

  • The woman told the court that she had met Vikas Nath about five to six times before the incident. She said Vikas Nath seemed genuinely concerned about her well-being and had invited her for drinks and lunches many times.
  • Being a high-profile figure in the restaurant world, Vikas Nath’s case has drawn significant public attention.
