  • Appurv Gupta is a popular Indian stand-up comedian who was ranked second in CNN-IBN’s list of “Top 20 Indian stand-up comedian in 2014.” In 2015, he was shortlisted for Forbes Celebrity 100.
  • While pursuing engineering from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida, Appurv Gupta realised that it wasn’t his cup of tea and started looking for an alternative career option. In an interview, he said

    In the first year itself, I had realised that engineering is not my cup of tea, but I completed my studies as my parents wanted me to.

  • While Appurv was looking for an alternative profession, his brother suggested him to join Toastmasters International, a non-profit public speaking organisation where people from different age groups gather to develop public speaking techniques. While sharing his experience at Toastmasters, he said,

    I started performing at the Toastmasters Club. Over the next three years, I gave a number of performances. Some people told me I was funny, which encouraged me. I tried my hand at humorous speeches. Then someone told me that I should try my hand at stand-up comedy.”

  • At Toastmasters International, Appurv performed around 1000 stage shows, took many leadership roles, and also opened clubs in different locations. After completing his formal education he got job offers from top MNC’s but Appurv decided to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. After venturing into the comedy business, he performed shows at several IT companies like Microsoft, Adobe, American Express, and Airtel.
  • In 2013, one of the stand-up comedy videos of Appurv went viral on WhatsApp. Unluckily, he did not gain much recognition as he forgot to mention his name in the video. As a result, many people have seen his video but they have no clue about the identity of the comedian.
  • In 2014, his first solo show ‘AppurView-Laugh With an Engineer’ was telecasted on NDTV Prime in the show, The Rising Stars of Comedy with Appurv Gupta. It was the most prominent act of his career after which he shot to fame. The standup set described life from the point-of-view of an engineer.
