On 5 April 2026, Congress spokesperson, Pawan Khera made the allegations that, Riniki Bhutan Sharma held multiple foreign passports of countries, including United Arab Emirates, Antigua and Barbuda, and Egypt. He added that she held 2 separate properties in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

  • Riniki Bhuyan Sharma was born and raised in a notable family of Guwahati. Her father, Jadav Chandra Bhuyan was a renowned industrialist, economist, journalist, and philanthropist of Guwahati.
  • Bhuyan’s early education was took place in Guwahati. During her school, she played tennis at national level.
  • After completing her master’s in law from Cotton College, she worked as a lawyer and enrolled at Bar Council of India.

  • In April 2026, Riniki Bhuyan again came into news after Congress Spokesman Pawan Khera, made the some allegations against Riniki Bhuyan and her husband, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

  • On 5 April 2026, few days before the 2026 Assembly elections, in a press conference, Khera alleged that Riniki held multiple foreign passports, including United Arab Emirates, Antigua and Barbuda, and Egypt, which expire between 2027 and 2031.

She was in possession of around Rs. 52,000 crores’ worth of assets in the name of a a firm named “Riniki Bhuyan Sarma Asset Collective LLC” registered in Wyoming, a state of the United States of America.
  • Soon, after Khera’s allegation Riniki and her husband, Himanta Biswa Sarma, denied the allegations on their respective social media posts, and called the allegations “malicious, fabricated and politically motivated.”
