In 2019, Mahesh Gaikwad was accused of attacking a private contractor who was setting up cables for a telecom company, and trying to extort Rs 1 lakh from him. The Kolsewadi police in Kalyan filed a case against him. Mahesh denied the charges and said that Ganpat Gaikwad, a political figure, pressured the police to file the case. However, Ganpat Gaikwad denied these accusations. He claimed that Mahesh was actually trying to extort money from the contractor and had stopped the cable installation work. Ganpat Gaikwad also mentioned that Mahesh had faced several other criminal charges in the past.

This happened due to a land disagreement between Ganpat Gaikwad and the Jadhav family.
