ControversiesArrested in connection to involvement in Nuh riots
On 14 September 2023, while Mamman was at his relatives house in Rajasthan, he was arrested by the special investigation team of Haryana police. After his arrest, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code against unlawful assembly was applied to the Nuh District of Haryana on that day. The government also ordered to suspend the mobile internet and SMS services in the area. [5]ANI He was arrested in reference to an FIR lodged on 1 August 2023 in the Nagina police station due to his alleged role in inciting violence during the Nuh riots. After the FIR was registered, he was called for an investigation but he failed to appear claiming that he had viral. [6]The Tribune On 11 September 2023, he filed a relief petition to the court stating that the SIT had falsely charged him, and he should not be arrested. In the petition, he claimed that he was not present in Nuh when the riots took place. His petition was rejected, and he was arrested on 14 September 2023. [7]Hindustan Times Following his arrest, he was produced in the court and was taken into two-day police custody.
Mamman Khan being taken to court
His custody was extended to two more days on 17 September 2023. [8]The Telegraph During the hearing of the case, the police reports stated,

"Call details from the mobile phones and tower location of Taufiq and Khan were examined, and it was found that calls were exchanged on July 29 and 30 – one day before July 31 when the Nuh violence took place. As per the tower location, Khan was within an area of 1.5 km from the place of occurrence on July 29 and 30, and thus, the averments to the effect that he was not close to the place of the occurrence in the petition is not correct.”

  • In May 2022, Mamman gave a statement in which he said that gau rakshaks (cow vigilantes), who were engaging in illegal activities, would not be allowed to enter the villages. His statement led to anger in the gau rakshaks and they warned him to not enter the state assembly. In response to this, Mamman wrote a letter to the Haryana chief minister, the home minister, and the director general of police and asked them to look into the matter. In the letter, he also mentioned that if the state government did not take any action, they would be held responsible for any harm to him or his family. [14]Outlook In an interview, he talked about the issue and said,

If an MLA is not safe in this state from these fanatics, what do you expect for a common man? I, as a public representative, said we would not allow vandalism and unauthorised use of force and arms. What was wrong in it? I have written to the state government and if anything happens to me or my family, the government will be responsible for unleashing these people on us.”

  • In August 2023, Mamman’s wife, Shamshaad filed a police complaint in Gurugram police station against an unknown woman. In the FIR, she alleged the women of harassment and extortion. According to Mamman’s wife, Mamman received a call from an unknown number and when he received the call, the person on the other end told him that he was bringing his wife to their home. To this, Mamman was shocked and told the caller that his wife was already present with him. After listening to this, the caller disconnected the call, but after a while, the lady who claimed to be Mamman’s wife came outside their home and created a scene outside their house. In the FIR, she also added that her husband’s name was used in such instances earlier as well. She claimed that it was the opposition party that tried to defame her husband. • The Home Minister of Haryana, Anil Vij, accused Mamman of spreading hate among people. He also held Mamman responsible for the Nuh 2023 riots. In a statement, he said,

It has also been found that violence took place at all such spots that were visited by Mamman Khan on July 28, 29, and 30. He made a post on his Facebook that read ‘I fought your fight in the Assembly also, and I am with you in this fight too’.”

  • According to various reports, a day before the violence in Nuh, Mamman took to ‘X’, formerly Twitter, and wrote,

The people of Mewat need not panic, fought for you in the assembly, will fight here too.”

The tweet was later deleted by him.
