Controversy | Alleged Forced Flight Clearance and Sedition Charges in Deoghar In 2022, the Deoghar police registered an FIR against BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Manoj Tiwari based on Manjunath's claim that they forcefully obtained clearance for a chartered flight's take-off when the airport lacked night take-off or landing facilities. In response, Dubey filed an FIR in Delhi on 3 September 2022 against Manjunath and Jharkhand police officers, including sedition charges for allegedly compromising national security. |

Some Lesser Known Facts About Manjunath Bhajantri
- In the early eighties, Manjunath Bhajantri’s father, Hanamantappa, would gather logs from nearby forests in Karnataka to sell at the Sureban village market in Belgaum district. This was the only means of income for their family of eight.
- Hanamantappa and his wife were semi-literate. They struggled financially but provided their six children with a better life. They encouraged them to study hard.
- Manjunath’s aptitude in mathematics was noticed by his school teachers in class 5.
- He secured admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Belgaum in class 6. He was the class 12 board topper in Hyderabad.
- After 12th, Manjunath Bhajantri cleared the engineering entrance exam without any coaching and joined IIT Bombay in 1997 to study computer science engineering.
- After graduating from IIT Bombay, he did not take up a job but instead looked for an investor and founded a start-up. He developed a text-to-speech software; however, the start-up failed as its investor backed out.
- Later, he worked for Reliance and Infosys for some time.
- Manjunath Bhajantri started preparing for the UPSC civil services examination in 2009 and cleared the examination in 2010, becoming an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Karnataka cadre.
- His father wanted him to stay in the IPS; however, Manjunath reappeared for the civil services examination in 2010 and qualified for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and was allotted the Jharkhand cadre.
