  • Nida Khan is a renowned Indian women rights activist. In January 2022, Nida Khan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. She became one of the prominent women rights activists in India after experiencing triple talaq within one year of her marriage. Besides this, Nida Khan also supports the victims of Nikah Halala.   • On 18 February 2015, Nida Khan got married to Sheeran Raza Khan who is the nephew of Maulana Tauqeer Raza, a congress party leader in Uttar Pradesh. Nida got married when she was pursuing the final year of her master’s degree. Sheeran Raza Khan belongs to the Ala Hazrat clan of the Bareilly, and Ala Hazrat was an Islamic scholar and the founder of the Barelvi movement in South Asia. Within five months of marriage, her in-laws started pressurizing her for dowry, and she became the victim of domestic violence and instant divorce.            Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan
  • In one of her interviews, Nida Khan stated that he in-laws promised to continue her further studies after the marriage, but during her final exams, in the second paper, her husband dragged her out of the examination room in the presence of teachers and policemen but no one dared to point him because he belonged to a well-reputed family of Uttar Pradesh. Nida suffered a miscarriage when she was badly beaten up by her husband, and on 17 July 2015, her husband gave her the triple talaq or instant divorce that forced her to leave her home.

  • A non-profit organisation named Ala Hazrat Helping Society was set up by Nida Khan in 2016 in Uttar Pradesh. This organisation counsels Muslim women who are the victims of triple talaq, polygamy, domestic violence, and Nikah Halala. [5]The Diplomat
  • Later, Nida Khan came to know that her husband was getting remarried somewhere else. She then decided to meet that woman who was going to marry Sheeran Raza Khan. Nida showed all the marriage documents, domestic violence pictures of her to that woman, and Nida convinced her not to marry him. Upon this, his marriage broke down. Soon, Sheeran Raza Khan reached her home and threatened Nida Khan. Nida Khan went to register an FIR against him, but, the police officials refused to entertain her.   • According to Nida Khan, soon after her instant divorce, she was forced to remarry her father-in-law and brother-in-law under the ‘Nikah Halala’ procedure and to consummate the marriage in order to remarry her former husband. But, she denied it and left her in-laws. She wrote a letter to UP CM Yogi Adityanath soon after her talaq and urged him to abolish the law as she believed that the triple talaq system was an immoral practice in Islam. [7]New India Express
  • In July 2018, a fatwa was issued against Nida Khan for speaking against Islam practices. A social boycott was issued by a Shahar Imam Mufti Khurshid Alam soon after she extensively started speaking against the triple talaq system in India. Nida Khan stated in a press conference soon after a fatwa was issued against her that those who were issuing fatwa in a democratic country like India could shift to Pakistan. [8]ABP She said,

    Those issuing fatwa “should go to Pakistan”. “India is a democratic country. No one can ostracise me from Islam. Only Allah can decide who is guilty.”

    The fatwa issued against Nida Khan was read as,

    No medicines will be provided if she falls ill. If she dies, no one is allowed to offer namaz on her ‘janaza’ (funeral procession). She cannot be buried in kabristan (graveyard) after her death.”

    A cash reward of Rs. 11,876 was also announced for anybody who chops her hair and was ordered to leave India within three days. [9]OP India

  • In January 2022, Nida Khan joined the Bhartiya Janata Party ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. After joining the BJP, she stated in the press conference that she joined BJP because BJP did a lot against the triple talaq law and the women were feeling safe under the BJP rule in Uttar Pradesh.     Triple talaq was the turning point in my life, which is why I support the BJP. The BJP has done a remarkable job by bringing a law against triple talaq. It seems that other parties are just giving slogans for women empowerment and women safety, but only the BJP has proved it.”
