  • Pooja Pal was born and grew up into a poor family.
  • Her father owned a small bicycle puncture repair shop.
  • After completing her graduation from Allahabad University, she worked different jobs, including as a sweeper in offices and hospitals to support her family financially.
  • In January 2005, Pooja Pal married Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Raju Pal. After nine days of their wedding, Raju Pal was shot dead.
  • He had recently defeated Ashraf Ahmad in the 2004 election for the Allahabad West Assembly seat. Raju Pal was appointed as the BSP MLA from the Allahabad West constituency.
  • After Raju Pal’s murder, Ashraf Ahmad was named as the main accused in the case.
  • In 2005, Ashraf Ahmad became the MLA from Allahabad West seat.
  • After her husband’s death, BSP chief Mayawati gave Pooja Pal a party ticket to contest from the Allahabad West constituency. However, she lost that election to Ashraf Ahmad.

  • In 2018, BSP chief Mayawati expelled Pooja Pal from the party after Pooja met BJP leader Keshav Prasad Maurya without the permission of the party.
  • In 2019, Pooja Pal joined the Samajwadi Party before the Lok Sabha elections.
  • In 2022, during the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, she contested from the Chail Assembly constituency on the ticket of Samajwadi Party.

  • During these elections, she made headlines when in her nomination papers for the elections, she listed her husband’s name as Brijesh Verma. This revealed that she had entered into an inter-caste marriage.
  • In February 2023, Umesh Pal, the main witness in the murder case of her first husband, was murdered.
  • Pooja Pal then slowly began moving away from the Samajwadi Party.
  • In February 2024, she went against the Samajwadi Party’s instructions and voted for the BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections.

  • Once, during a media conversation, she shared that she received justice for her husband, Raju Pal, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Pooja Pal said,

    My MLA husband Raju Pal was murdered in broad daylight. We fought for justice for 18 years. Everyone gave assurances, but justice came only from CM Yogi. My community also got justice from him, that’s why I am with him.”

  • After that, Pooja Pal, along with Yogi Adityanath, attended the coronation function of Santosh Das Maharaj Satua Baba as Jagadguru.
  • A few hours after that, the Samajwadi Party expelled her for “anti-party activities.”

  • After leaving the party, Pooja Pal became a strong critic of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.
