• Ruturaj began his practice at an early age, and he used to practice at Vengsarkar Cricket Academy in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area in Pune.

• Ruturaj Gaikwad started playing for the team of Maharashtra. He was a part of the U-16 and U-19 teams of Maharashtra. Ruturaj played for the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy for Maharashtra, which marked his debut in first-class cricket.

• In December 2018, due to his consistent performance in the state-level matches, Ruturaj Gaikwad was bought by Chennai Super Kings for the base price of Rs. 20 lakhs. He was a part of the 2019 Indian Premier League. ^[3]Outlook

• In June 2019, Ruturaj scored 187 runs (not out) against Sri Lanka A while he was playing for India A. He received the Man of the Match award for his performance in the match.

• Ruturaj was added to the team in place of Suresh Raina as he had to leave the premier league due to certain personal reasons. Ruturaj Gaikwad is a big fan of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Ruturaj can be seen in the field with him during practices.

• On 28 November 2022, while playing for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final against Uttar Pradesh, he smashed 43 runs in the penultimate over of the innings off the bowling of Shiva Singh; Gaikwad hit seven consecutive sixes as the fifth ball of the over turned out to be a no-ball, and the free-hit also disappeared for a six.

• In July 2023, Ruturaj Gaikwad was announced to lead India’s men’s squad at the Asian Games, to be held in Hangzhou, China.

• He was named as the new captain of the Chennai Super Kings, replacing M.S. Dhoni, ahead of the 2024 IPL.
