  • His sister-in-law, Balbir Kaur aka Balbiro aka Biro aka Bo, was earlier married to a man named Juaarh Singh in a village at the border of Patiala-Sangrur.
  • As per some sources, she poisoned her husband Juaarh as he failed to fulfil her lusty expectations; people believed that she poisoned him in such a manner that his death seemed natural.
  • After some time, Balbiro and her parents invited marriage proposals for her.
  • When Sucha Singh heard about this invitation, he along with his best friend Ghukkar Mall, went to see her for Sucha’s elder brother Narain Singh.
  • Balbiro, before accepting the offer put in a few conditions that included- load her with jewellery on the wedding, give her freedom in terms of running the house, doing other chores, and allowing her to consume liquor and eat meat and chicken.
  • As Narain was an opium addict (as Biro claimed later), they agreed on all her conditions.
  • After Narain and Balbiro’s marriage, his family provided her with whatever she desired within the family’s social and financial limits.
  • Ghukkar frequently visited Sucha’s home as they were best friends. Ghukkar kept an eye on Balbiro as she was very beautiful and decided to propose her.
  • Although, Balbiro was also attracted to Ghukkar (Ghukkar being a landlord, a wrestler and an influential person in the village), she was initially hesitant to accept his proposal as she was afraid of her brother-in-law Sucha.
  • Ghukkar framed a plan and suggested Sucha that they should join the army in Multan to improve their financial condition.
  • Soon, they both went to get recruited. However, Ghukkar made an excuse that he was feeling homesick and returned to his village.
  • After returning to the village, Ghukkar often visited Balbiro, indulging in drunken parties with her.
  • Disturbed with Balbiro’s closeness with Ghukkar, her husband Narain Singh, wrote a letter to Sucha, describing him the entire situation.
  • As the letter reached Sucha, he returned to home and tried to resolve things by talking to Ghukkar about it. However, Ghukkar ignored his instructions and continued meeting Balbiro.
  • Sucha then discussed the matter with wiser people in the village. However, Ghukkar didn’t pay any heed to them.
  • Meanwhile, Balbiro also tried to calm down Sucha, asking him not to take any extreme steps.
  • Annoyed by their relationship, Sucha often beat Balbiro for bringing a bad name to his home. However, Balbiro made several excuses- sometimes she said that Ghukkar forced her into doing it and other times she said that she was meeting Ghukkar to find a solution for the situation.
  • Ghukkar and Balbiro convinced Sucha’s friends to explain Sucha that they were too much in love like Heer and Ranjha and could not be separated. But when Sucha rejected to accept their affair, Ghukkar threatened him of dire consequences as the majority off village was on his side.
  • Once, Ghukkar organised an akhara (singing program) in his village and invited his friends from other villages as well. While they were enjoying the akhara, Balbiro passed by and Ghukkar commented her by calling her his mistress. He asked her to join him and his friends to which Balbiro agreed.
  • When Sucha came to know about the incident, he prepared his riffle and reached the spot where Ghukkar and his friends were enjoying alcoholic drinks with Balbiro. Seeing Sucha in high spirits with weapons, all the friends of Ghukkar ran away. Balbiro to ran back to her home.
