- Sudhir Mishra is an Indian theatre artist, film director, and screenwriter. He has received National Awards for the Hindi films ‘Main Zinda Hoon’ (1988) and ‘Dharavi’ (1992).
- He spent his childhood in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.
- His father was associated with a theatre group and used to take Sudhir along with him to various theatre plays. From there, Sudhir started developing an interest in acting. Gradually, he realised that instead of acting, he was interested in the process of making films.
- Sudhir started his career as a theatre artist and worked in theatre plays of the Indian theatre dramatist Badal Sircar. After performing in a few theatre plays, he started working as a scriptwriter in theatre plays. Later, he moved to Pune from Delhi and with the help of his brother (a student at the Film and Television Institute of India), he started learning more about acting and filmmaking.
- Sudhir then worked as a theatre director in various theatre plays. He has also organised various acting & film direction classes at Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association, Mumbai.
- He then started working as a director in various Hindi films and TV serials. Some of his Hindi TV serials as a director are ‘Chhapte Chhapte’ (1985) and ‘Nyay’ (1999), which aired on Doordarshan.

My friend Vinod Dua was interviewing Vidhu Vinod Chopra for Doordarshan and asked me to ask Vinod questions as I knew about films. Vinod, seeing my knowledge about films, asked me to come to Mumbai. He was at that time making his first film and I asked him, ‘What will I do’? He said, ‘Learn to hold the boom’. I went to Mumbai and met this liberal bunch of people Kundan Shah, Ketan Mehta, Javed Akhtar and Shekhar Kapur who became my family. Kundan would come to my house where he started writing Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and I started co-writing the script with him.”
