Controversy | Accident Case in Kanpur: Anand Mahindra found himself in a controversy on 23 September 2023, when an FIR was lodged against him in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The complaint came from Rajesh Mishra, a Kanpur resident, who had gifted his son Apoorv a Mahindra Scorpio SUV on 2 December 2020. Apoorv met with an accident in the same vehicle while returning from Lucknow to Kanpur on 14 January 2022, and he died on the spot. As per Rajesh's complaint, both Apoorv and his friends had their seat belts on during the accident, but the airbags failed to deploy. In the complaint, it was mentioned that the car lacked airbags altogether. In response to this complaint, the Raipurwa Police regestered an FIR against Anand Mahindra and 12 others. The charges brought against them included IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 304-A (causing death by negligence), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 102-B (criminal intimidation). - Anand Mahindra is an Indian business tycoon and the third-generation heir of the Mahindra clan that leads the Mahindra & Mahindra conglomerate. This company operates around 22 industries from auto to real estate and is widely known for producing some fine heavy vehicles like SUVs & tractors.
- Since childhood, he had a deep interest in film-making. Carrying forward his interest, he completed his graduation in Film making from Harvard University in 1977, and in 1981, he started his professional journey by joining Mahindra Ugine Steel Company Ltd (MUSCO). He was also a member of the Phoenix S.K. Club.
- In 1996, he established the ‘Nanhi Kali’ charitable trust that supports primary education for underprivileged girls in India. As of 2017, the trust has supported more than 1,30,000 girls. Besides this, he is also one of the board of directors of Naandi Foundation. Naandi Foundation is a trust that works towards the socio-economic development of India.
