• Kamran Akmal liked playing cricket since childhood. He also liked flying kites when he was young.

• He started playing tape-ball cricket with his friends in his locality. He later started helping his father at his welding shop before he was selected for the Pakistan Under-15 team.

• He later played for various age-group teams of Pakistan such as Pakistan Under-15 in 1996 and Pakistan Under-19 in 1997.

• In March 2005, while playing in a test match against India at Mohali, he came in to bat at 8th position in the second innings and scored the first century of his test career which helped Pakistan draw the match.

• On 19 January 2005, he hit his first ODI century with 124 runs against West Indies at Brisbane. This is also his highest ODI score.

• In the 2007 ODI World Cup held in West Indies, he scored 42 runs in 3 matches at an average of 14 and strike rate of 56.76. He also took 3 catches and did 2 stumpings.

• In the 2007 T20I World Cup held in West Indies, he scored 42 runs in 3 matches at an average of 14.67 and strike rate of 112.82. He also took 3 catches and did 2 stumpings. He got out on a duck in the final against India.

• Rajasthan Royals (RR) acquired him for his base price of $150 thousand for the 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

• Akmal scored 128 runs in 6 matches in the maiden season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. He scored 6 runs in the final, helping Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

• In the second test of the 2009-2010 series against Australia, he dropped 4 catches in the second innings of Australia. Between September and November 2010, he was investigated by the International Cricket Committee (ICC) for the spot-fixing charges but was later cleared.

• In the semi-final of the 2011 ODI World Cup held in India, he did the stumping dismissal of Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, and Zaheer Khan and scored 19 runs in 21 deliveries. Pakistan lost the match and was eliminated from the tournament.

• Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel acquired him for $30,000 for the 2015 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season. In the 2017 CPL auction, he was acquired for $15,000 by St. Lucia Stars.

• In the first Pakistan Super League (PSL) season in 2016, Peshawar Zalmi acquired him in the diamond category with $70,000.

• On 24 November 2017, during the 2017-2018 National T20 Cup, he scored 150 runs in 71 balls for Lahore Whites against Islamabad. He became the first batsman to score 150 runs in a T20 format of the game and hit most sixes in a domestic T20 match in Pakistan.

• In the semi-final of the 2017 PSL season against Karachi Kings, he made his first PSL hundred (his first T20 century) with 104 runs in 65 balls at a strike rate of 160 which included 6 fours and 7 sixes.

• When PCB gave him the best domestic wicketkeeper award in 2018, many people made fun of him by calling him ‘butterfingers’ or ‘the worst wicketkeeper.’

• When Akmal retired, he had the most PSL centuries (3) which was later equalised by Usman Khan who also had 3 hundreds till 2024.

• In the first season of the reality show The Ultimate Muqabla in 2022 which aired on ARY Digital, he was featured as a participant along with many Pakistani players such as Imad Wasim, Azam Khan, and Saeed Ajmal.

• In January 2023, he became the chief of a selection committee for the domestic age-group team including Under-13, Under-16, and Under-19 regional and district teams. In February 2023, he became a member of the national selection committee led by Haroon Rasheed.

• In February 2023, he withdrew his name from selection committees as he had a contract with a private TV channel for the 2023 PSL season.

• In February 2023, he was appointed as the batting mentor for the PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi.

• He has been trolled by fans on various occasions for his poor English. In 2020, when a fan asked him why people make fun of his English, he tweeted that it was fine as English was not his native language.
