Controversies• He has been convicted by the special CBI court and later arrested in the "Fodder Scam" of 1996, which involved an amount of 9.50 billion (INR).

• On 27 February 2023, a Delhi court issued summons to Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, and others in connection with a case related to the alleged land-for-job scam. According to the CBI, when Mr. Prasad was minister of railways between 2004 and 2009, alleged appointments were made in exchange for land parcels gifted or sold to his family. On 15 March 2023, the court granted bail to Lalu Yadav, his wife, Rabri Devi, and their daughter Misa Bharti on a personal bond of Rs. 50,000 and one surety of like amount each.
