- Ajit Anjum has been reading multiple newspaper dailies since his student days.
- As a student, he wrote his views on social problems in letters to the editor of the Patliputra Times and other dailies.
- In 1987, he and his friends came in contact with a group of local journalists in Muzaffarpur. The interactions with those journalists were instrumental in his choosing journalism as a career.
- At the same time, Manikant Thakur, then editor of Patlipura Times, allowed him to work as a local correspondent of Minapur in Muzaffarpur.
- He also freelanced as a journalist for several newspapers and periodicals such as Dharmyug, Saptahik Hindustan, Janshakti, Dinmaan, and Ravivar.
- In an interview, Ajit Anjum mentioned that he used to get Rs 50 per article published in the newspaper Janshakti.
