  • At the time of her birth, her father was not happy as he was expecting a son.
  • Aruna Irani was a topper in school and wanted to become a doctor. However, she left her studies after class 6, as her family’s financial condition was not good.
  • In childhood, while she was living in Soonawala Colony in Tardeo, Mumbai, a casting agent visited their locality. He said that the Indian actor Dilip Kumar was looking for a child artist in one of his films. The agent also offered the children wafers and Coca-Cola. Aruna became very happy to have the snacks and agreed to work in the film.
  • As she studied up to class 6 only, people used to wonder how she could speak such good English. She said that in school she learnt English for only two years and after that, she bought an Oxford dictionary (Hindi to English translation) to improve her English.
  • Aruna once shared that she made her father proud when she first bought a Fiat car for Rs 9000.
  • She has worked as a child actor in various Hindi films including ‘Gunga Jumna’ (1961), ‘Gungi Ladki’ (1961), ‘Anpadh’ (1962), ‘Tarzan The Storm’ (1962), and ‘Parasmani’ (1963).

  • For around two years, she did not get any offer of the films. She then accompanied her father in drama troupe rehearsals. There, she used to substitute for the actors. The Indian film director Babubhai Mistri watched her performing there and signed her for his various Hindi films.
  • Along with the Indian actor Mehmood, she has acted in many Hindi films including ‘Aulad’ (1968), ‘Devi’ (1970), ‘Naya Zamana’ (1971), ‘Bombay To Goa’ (1972), ‘Garam Masala’ (1972), and ‘Do Phool’ (1973).
