  • After making her debut with the TV series ‘Apradhi Kaun!’ in 1986, she appeared in the TV series ‘Raj Se Swaraj’ in the same year.
  • She rose to fame for playing the role of IPS Officer Kalyani Singh in the TV series ‘Udaan’ (1989-1991), which was broadcast on the channel DD National. Besides acting, she also wrote, produced, and directed the TV series. The story of the TV series was based on the life of Kavita’s elder sister, Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, who was the second woman to become an IPS officer in India.

  • In an interview, she disclosed that her TV series ‘Udaan’ was once planned to be halted midway. However, she later learned from a joint secretary in the Home Ministry that the recruitment of women in the Indian civil services had increased after the telecast of the TV series. Later, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting at the time approved the continuation of the TV series.
  • In the late 1980s, she became a household name as Lalita ji, the iconic housewife character in Surf detergent television commercials produced by Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL).
