  • Since childhood, she was inclined towards singing. At a very young age, she started her training in singing. Her parents also dreamt that their daughter would become a professional singer one day.
  • At a very young age, she started practising singing with her elder brother Gulshan.
  • In childhood, she was taught the “Heer” song (by singer Bari Shah) by her maternal grandfather Sardar Balwant Singh.
  • She has attended various singing events at the ‘Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan’ held at Sri Devi Talab Mandir, Jalandhar.
  • She considers Pakistani Sufi singer Fareed Ayaz her Guru.
  • While she was studying in school, her classmates and teachers motivated her to try her luck in singing. She has received a scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

  • In 2007, she was invited to Canada to perform in the Sufi singer program of Three Horse.

  • During an interview, Mamta Joshi said that her maternal grandfather Sardar Balwant Singh had advised her that whenever she practices or sings Varsya song, she must put a cloth on her head.
