Ragini Nayak originally belongs to Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and did her initial schooling from there only.

While being a student at the University of Delhi, she had initiated into active politics and joined the National Student Union of India (NSUI) as an activist.

After studying Law from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, she joined Lakshmi Bai College of Delhi University, as an assistant professor of English Literature in the year 2012.

She got married to Ashok Basoya, who was the former Vice-president of DUSU (University Of Delhi), and they knew each other for 8 years before getting married. He is an advocate by profession and is also a member of the All India Congress Committee.
