Controversies | Flag hoisting went against Rekha In 2021, Rekha and her husband were involved in a controversy when she did not hoist the national flag due to a busy schedule. Her husband hoisted the flag instead of her in the camp office as a part of state formation ceremony. The opposition leaders demanded a legal action against them as they claimed that her husband, being a government employee, violated the rules. Rekha addressed the meeting and while mentioning all the people present on the stage, she also mentioned the name of the sarpanch, but he asked her not to mention his name. Some Lesser Known Facts About Rekha Naik
- Rekha Naik is an Indian politician who won as MLA from Khanapur on the Telangana Rashtra Samithi ticket in 2018. She became famous for applying for the Congress ticket from the Khanapur ST constituency even before joining the party on 22 August 2023 after her party the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) denied her renomination in the Assembly elections.
- She was a member of the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency.
- In 2017, she distributed a cheque of Rs. 51,000 to each of the beneficiaries under the Kalayana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak Schemes from Kadem and Dasturabad mandals.
- In 2017, she organized a Quranic recitation program at her residence. During the programme, she recited Quranic verses with a large number of ladies and girls students attending the program. In an interview, she said that the Quran was a guide for all human beings in the world. She also said that she was fond of the recitation of the Quran. She also expressed that whenever she saw Muslim girls reciting the Quran, she felt happy. In the interview, she further added that she had an attachment to the Quran since her student days, and whenever there was a program of recitation of “Ayat-e-Kareema” at the residence of her friends, she used to participate. She also mentioned that after listening to the Quran, she felt peace of mind.
- In 2018, she introduced 102 Amma Vodi ambulances, sanctioned for Kadem Primary Health Centre and said that the vehicle was mainly for the use of women and children.
- In 2018, she was abused by a woman from the SC colony at Indhanpalli in Jannaram mandal of Mancherial district when she went for her election campaign. The women accused her of ignoring the development of their village and asked her not to visit the colony again.
- In 2022, she went to inspect the flooded villages and destroyed crops in her constituency even after the roads were damaged due to rain. The bridge that was in the construction process, collapsed due to floods, so she crossed the Gangapur river on a raft. After crossing the river, they reached the village and inspected the damaged crops and ensured the farmers help from the government.
- In December 2022, she got involved in a spat with Bandi Sanjay Kumar, a member of the Lok Sabha. Sanjay made wrong remarks against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and MLC K Kavitha after which Rekha said that he should watch his words before he spoke.
- On 22 August 2023, she and her husband sent their application form to Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress party headquarters, in Hyderabad. Her husband joined the party on 21 August. After receiving her application, the Congress leaders asked her to arrive in the city and join the party, but no confirmation was given from her side. According to Rekha, she was dropped from the candidature without citing any reason.
