Some Lesser Known Facts About Shekhar Suman
- Shekhar Suman used to be the favourite child of his parents.
- While growing up he joined the organisation named Jai Prakash Narayan’s Charkha Samiti. He used to sleep there after having snacks and sweets.
- In childhood, he loved to fly kites and play with marbles with his friends.
- While in school, he used to participate in debate competitions and stage plays. He used to mimic various actors like Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, and Dilip Kumar in front of his school friends.
- He also joined NCC while he was in school. He then decided to join the Indian Navy.
- While he was in college, he wanted to become an IAS officer. However, he was inclined towards acting after he joined Shri Ram Centre as a repertory actor. He used to earn Rs 625 per month there.
- While he was in college, he started dating Alka Kapur, a student at IP College. Later, they got married.
- After their marriage, their son Aayush was born. However, due to illness, he could not survive. Shekhar was in depression after that and even stopped believing in god.
- In 1984, he made his debut with the Hindi film Utsav in which he was required to do some bold scenes with the Indian actress Rekha. He was so nervous that he practised with a pillow before shooting the scenes with Rekha.
- In an interview, he shared how he got the offer of the film Utsav. He said that he met the Indian actor Shashi Kapoor on the sets of a film. Shashi advised him to meet the film director Girish Karnad who selected him for the role.
