- Kunwar Danish Ali is an Indian politician and a member of the lower house of parliament from the Amroha constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He is the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party in the Lok Sabha.
- Apart from Danish’s grand uncle, Kunwar Mahmood Ali, there is no political lineage in his family. Kunwar Mahmood Ali served as the governor of Madhya Pradesh and was elected as an MP from the Hapur constituency in 1977. He also held the position of an MLA from the Dasna constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
- Danish has 4 elder brothers and he is the youngest one.
- During his time at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi in the 1990s, Danish became active in student politics. This involvement eventually led him to join the Janata Dal (Secular) party, where he established close relationships with senior party leaders such as H.D. Deve Gowda and H. D. Kumaraswamy.
- He played an important role in forming a coalition between the Congress and Janata Dal (S) in 2018 after the general elections in Karnataka. He was made the convenor of the five-member Coalition Coordination and Monitoring Committee set up by the two parties. However, the coalition lasted for 14 months only as the then CM Kumaraswamy couldn’t pass the floor test in the assembly and resigned as the chief minister. Later, BJP’s B.S. Yeddyurappa proved the majority and took oath as the CM of the state.
- In 2019, he played an important role in bringing the BSP and JD (S) together. Subsequently, he became a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party led by Mayawati, a decision that received support from Kumaraswamy.
