Some Lesser Known Facts About T Dilip
- T Dilip is an Indian fielding coach who has served as the fielding coach of many domestic teams and the national cricket team of India despite never representing India in the international circuit.
- He was interested in playing cricket since his childhood and played for his school, college, and club teams. He played for Cheerful and New Blues teams in A-Division local leagues. His father did not want him to pursue a career in sports as they did not belong to an affluent or rich family; however, Dilip kept on playing cricket and later became a player cum coach for some local teams.
- During his initial coaching days, he used to give maths tuition to children to make ends meet as he did not earn much from his coaching stints at local clubs.
- While talking with Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin about his early journey, T Dilip said that he used to give cricket coaching to some local boys and felt happy whenever those boys played well. Such instances made him realise that he should pursue a career in cricket coaching. He was in Top-3 during a Level-1 coaching session in 2004.
- Dilip served as the fielding coach of the Under-14, Under-16, Under-19, Under-20, and Under-25 teams of the Hyderabad Cricket Association Academy and many other women and junior teams of the Ranji Trophy since 2008. During his time as the fielding coach of junior teams, he was guided by the former Indian fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar (popularly known as R Sridhar) who told him about the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and coaching sessions being given at NCA.
- When he was working with junior teams, he trained many youngsters including Axar Patel and Shubman Gill who went on to represent India in many international cricket. He was appointed as fielding coach of India A for the Bangladesh series in 2017. He did a Level-A Refresher course in Hyderabad, and a Level-B and a Level-C Refresher course at NCA in Bengaluru between 2007 and 2019.
