Controversy | Selfie row with influencer Sapna Gill: On 15 February 2023, Prithvi Shaw was involved in a car chase in Mumbai after an argument over selfies escalated into a fight with a baseball bat. According to a police complaint filed by the cricketer at the Oshiwara police station, eight people, including Shobhit Thakur and Sana or Sapna Gill (a social media influencer), chased the cricketer's car and attacked him with a baseball bat after the cricketer denied taking selfies with them at a luxury hotel near the Mumbai airport. In his complaint, Prithvi Shaw said that after taking few selfies with Sapna Gill and others in the hotel, he asked them to leave; however, they wanted to click more selfies following which Prithvi Shaw called his friend and the manager of the hotel to have the fans removed. Later, the fans, who were waiting outside the hotel for Prithvi, along with a few others armed with baseball bats, mobbed him. The cricketer also said that when he drove off, they chased his car, intercepted it at a traffic signal near Oshiwara, and broke the windshield. According to Prithvi Shaw's friend, the alleged fans also demanded Rs 50,000, threatening to file a fake police case. Following the complaint, the police arrested Sapna Gill. [6]NDTV On 5 April 2023, Sapna Gill filed a criminal complaint before the Andheri magistrate's court, seeking registration of an FIR against the cricketer under IPC sections 354 (assault of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) 509 (word/gesture/act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).
