Controversies | • In 2009, the Kherwadi police blamed Abu Azmi for trasfering money during elections. [4]The Times of India • In 2013, Abu Azmi attracted a controversy when he stated in a media talk that women who engage in sexual activity with men before marriage, even if it is consentual, should be executed. He made the statement in answer to a query regarding his opinions of Mulayam Singh's remarks regarding a rape case in the same year. He added that even rape victims should be punished. I do not consider him a cruel ruler. The battle between Chhattrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb was about state administration, not about a religious conflict between Hindus and Muslims." Some Lesser Known Facts About Abu Azmi
- Abu Azmi is an Indian politician and a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He represents the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency in Maharashtra, which is located in the Mumbai Suburban District. Abu Azmi is a member of the Samajwadi Party and holds the position of President in the party’s Maharashtra state branch.
- Abu Azmi was detained on 6 March 1993 in connection with the Mumbai bomb blast. Azmi was sentenced to a year in prison until the Supreme Court of India found him not guilty of the accusations. Abu Azmi then decided to enter politics. [13]Dainik Bhaskar
- In 1995, Azmi joined politics. The same year, he led the Samajwadi Party (SP) to win two seats in the Maharashtra state assembly.
- In 2004, during his first election, Abu Asim Azmi lost to Yogesh Patil of the Shiv Sena from the Bhiwandi constituency in Maharashtra. From 2002 to 2008, Azmi served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Rajya Sabha from the Uttar Pradesh constituency.

Any woman if, whether married or unmarried, goes along with a man, with or without her consent, should be hanged. Rape is punishable by hanging in Islam. But here, nothing happens to women, only to men. Even the woman is guilty. Girls complain when someone touches them, and even when someone doesn’t touch them. It becomes a problem then … If rape happens with or without consent, it should be punished as prescribed in Islam.”

- In June 2017, the Delhi Special Cell detained Abu Aslam Azmi after collecting 5 kg of the party drug “MDMA,” better known as “ICE,” worth Rs. 40 crores in Delhi. Islam teaches us to bow down before the one who created this whole world. According to my religion, if I cannot recite Vande Mataram, then it does not reduce my respect for my country and my patriotism, and no one should have any objection to this.”
