The man behind the superhit music Tum Hi Ho is none other than Arijit Singh. He is the gem of India who has not only showed his talent in the field of singing but also has done really well in composing, recording and music programming. He is one of the most versatile and successful singers in Indian film industry and is a person who has made name for himself.

Birth And Early Life

Arijit Singh was born on 25th April 1987 at Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal, to a Punjabi father and Bengali mother. His maternal aunt gave him classical music classes. He completed his schooling from Raja BH Singh High School and later went to Sripat Singh College.

Trained by Dhirendra Prasad Hazari

Arijit Singing Training

He was taught Indian classical music by Rajendra Prasad and trained in tabla by Dhirendra Prasad Hazari. He also taught him Rabindra Sangeet and pop music.

Scholarship From Government

He started his learning career under the guidance of Hazare brothers at the age of 3. When he turned 9, he got a scholarship from the government for training in vocal Indian classical music.

3 Musical Gurus

The talented musician was trained and guided under 3 Gurus: Rajendra Prasad Hazari trained him in Indian classical music, Dhirendra Prasad Hazari taught him tabla while Virendra Prasad Hazari made him learn Rabindra Sangeet and pop music.

Start of Career

In 2005, he participated in a reality show “Fame Gurukul” when his classical music Guru Rajendra Prasad told him to do so. In this reality show, he managed to get 6th position. He also participated in another reality show “10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil” and won the competition.

Freelance Singer

Before entering into the Bollywood industry as a playback singer he used collaborate as a freelancer with Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Pritam Chakraborty, VishalShekhar and Mithoon Sharma. He learnt a lot while working them.

Arijit Idols

He is fond of listening classical music. He idolizes great musicians like Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Zakir Hussain and Anand Chatterjee. He also enjoys listening to the music of Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar and Manna Dey.

Playback Debut

After doing freelancing projects for quite some time he started his Bollywood career as a playback singer. His first playback debut was Phir Mohabbat for the movie “Murder 2 (2011)”. After getting popularity he also voiced for quite a few hit movies, like- “Aashiqui 2 (2013)”, “Ye Jawani Hai Deewani (2013)”, “Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013)”, “Chennai Express (2013)”, “Heropanti (2014)” and many more.

Directed a Movie

In the year 2015 the versatile music director, composer and singer directed a Bengali documentary movie “Bhalobashar Rojnamcha”.

From a very young age, his mother used to push him to learn music. He learnt music from his mother who used to play and sing with him.

Apart from a keen interest in composing music he also likes playing badminton. He is a writer and likes watching movies and is also a documentary filmmaker.

In the year 2014, he got married to his childhood friend Koel Roy. It was the second marriage for him and his wife.

His NGO

He works towards the upliftment of the society and has an NGO called “Let There Be Light”. The NGO works for the poor people and helps them achieve better living conditions by providing basic necessities.

He won the Filmfare Award in the year 2016 for Sooraj Dooba song from “Roy (2015)” movie. The popular song of  “Aashiqui 2 (2013)” movie Tum Hi Ho made him win 9 awards out of all nominations. He has been honoured with many high-rank awards like Filmfare, IIFA, Zee Cinema and two screen award.
