List of IPL Owners 2019
The 2019 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the 12th season of the IPL in which 8 teams are scheduled to play. Every team’s franchise has been bought by the IPL Owners. Therefore, owners are the “Pillars of Strength” for an IPL team. Here is the complete list of IPL Owners of 2018.
1. Chennai Super Kings
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was founded in 2008, the team plays its home matches at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The team is captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coached by former New Zealand cricketer Stephen Fleming. CSK has won the IPL trophy twice in 2010 and 2011.
Owner: Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd (India Cements)
India Cements Limited is a cement manufacturing company in India. The company is headed by the former International Cricket Council Chairman N. Srinivasan.
2. Delhi Capitals
The Delhi Daredevils (DD) was established in 2008, the team plays its home matches at their home grounds which are- the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi and the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chhattisgarh. The team is captained by Gautam Gambhir with former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting as the Head Coach.
Owners: GMR Group, JSW Group
GMR Group is an infrastructural company founded in 1978 by Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao. JSW Group is one of India’s largest business conglomerates that is headed by Sajjan Jindal.
3. Kings XI Punjab
The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) was founded in 2008, the team plays its home matches at the PCA Stadium, Mohali. The team is captained by Ravichandran Ashwin and coached by the Australian cricketer Brad Hodge.
Owners: Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, Mohit Burman, Karan Paul
The team’s franchise is jointly owned by Dabur Group’s Mohit Burman (46%), the Wadia Group’s Ness Wadia (23%), the Bollywood actress Preity Zinta (23%), and Saptarshi Dey of the Dey & Dey Group (minor stake).
4. Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was established in 2008, the team plays its home matches at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata which is the largest cricket stadium in India. The team is captained by Dinesh Karthik with former South African cricketer Jacques Kallis as the Head Coach. KKR won the IPL trophy twice in 2012 and 2014.
Owners: Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Jay Mehta
The team’s franchise has celebrity owners i.e. the Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan (Red Chillies Entertainment) – 55% shareholder, in partnership with Jay Mehta and Juhi Chawla (Mehta Group) – 45% shareholder.
5. Mumbai Indians
The Mumbai Indians (MI) was founded in 2008, the team plays its home matches at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The team is captained by Rohit Sharma and coached by Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene. MI is the most successful team and has won the IPL trophy thrice in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
Owner: Reliance Industries
The team is owned by India’s biggest conglomerate, Reliance Industries, with the Indian business magnate, Mukesh Ambani as its chairman.
6. Rajasthan Royals
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) was founded in 2008, the team plays its home matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and also has secondary home grounds at the Sardar Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad and the Brabourne Stadium at Mumbai. The team is captained by Ajinkya Rahane with former Australian cricketer Shane Warne as the Team Mentor.
Owner: Manoj Badale
The team’s franchise is currently owned by Manoj Badale, who is the co-founder and managing partner of Blenheim Chalcot.
7. Royal Challengers Bangalore
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was founded in 2008, the team plays its home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The team is captained by Virat Kohli and coached by former New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori.
Owner: United Spirits Limited – Diageo
United Spirits Limited is an Indian alcoholic beverages company and is a subsidiary of Diageo, a British multinational alcoholic beverages company.
8. Sunrisers Hyderabad
The SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) was established in 2012, the team plays its home matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. The team is captained by the New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson with former Australian cricketer Tom Moody as the Head Coach. SRH won the IPL trophy in 2016.
Owner: Kalanithi Maran (Sun Network)
Sun TV Network Limited is an Indian mass media company established in 1991 by Kalanithi Maran, the chairman of the Sun Group.
