In January 2024, during the third and final T20I match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru, a significant controversy unfolded when Rohit Sharma came back to bat in the second Super Over, despite having been retired out in the first Super Over. According to the rules of the Super Over, a batter who has been retired out is not permitted to return to the game. According to Karim Janat, the Afghan player who played in the match, Rohit should not have been allowed to bat again. Janat said,
