Controversies | • Hiding his son from police [3]India Today [4]The Times of India [5]The Indian Express [6]Amar Ujala A 23-year-old girl registered an FIR at the Sadar Bazar Police Station, Delhi, against his son Rohit Joshi in May 2022 for raping her several times between 8 January 2021 and 17 April 2022. She said that they became friends on Facebook and met on 8 January 2021 for the first time in Jaipur. She accused Rohit of lacing her drinks with sedatives during their second meeting in Sawai Madhopur on 8 January 2021 and taking naked photos of her. She said that Rohit got her pregnant, and when she told Rohit about her pregnancy, he threatened her due to which she had to abort the child. She alleged that Rohit made fake promises to her and often told her that he would divorce his wife, Divya, to get married to her. During one of their meetings at a hotel, Rohit registered their names as husband and wife. She accused Rohit of beating her, picturing her naked, and and threatening her for making the pictures viral if she would not comply with his instructions. The FIR was registered under sections 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence), 312 (causing miscarriage), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her marriage, etc), 377 (unnatural offences) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC. When the matter was reported by the media, Rohit absconded to an unknown location. It was alleged that Mahesh hid his son; however, when questioned by the media and police, Mahesh said that he wanted the investigation to be conducted fairly. The complainant was provided police security by the Rajasthan High Court citing danger to her life as Rohit's accomplices threatened her to take back the case. On 9 June 2022, Rohit was given anticipatory bail by a local court following which he appeared at the Police station on the next day to take part in the investigation. Two boys threatened the complainant on 11 June 2022 when she was out for a walk with her mother in the Kalindi Kunj area of Delhi and threw an ink-like chemical on her. She was immediately rushed to AIIMS Delhi, where she spent some days in the Trauma Centre for recovery. • Abetting a person to commit suicide [7]NDTV [8]Amar Ujala [9]The Indian Express Mahesh Joshi and 6 other people were accused of harassing Ramprasad Meena by not allowing him to build his house on his land near the Hanuman Temple in the Chandi ki Taksal area of Jaipur. Ramprasad committed suicide by hanging on 17 April 2023 in the office of a transport company in the Subhash Chowk area and made a video before committing suicide in which he mentioned the names of the people who harassed him, and he later sent the video to his daughter. Apart from Mahesh, he named the Priest of Girdhari Temple Devendra Sharma, Lalit Sharma, the owner of Royal Sheraton Hotel Munji Tank, Deva Awasthi, and Lalchand Devnani as the alleged harassers. He also requested the Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan Kirodi Lal Meena to take action against the accused and grant justice to him and his family. In the video, he alleged that when he went to meet Mahesh at his house with his family, Mahesh insulted them and pushed them. Ankit Meena, Ramprasad's son, alleged that his father knew that the matter would be suppressed after his death, hence he sent the video to his daughter to make sure that his family and public had a proof of reason behind his suicide. Ramprasad's brother registered a complaint at the Subhash Chowk Police Station, and his family also protested outside the office where he committed suicide. Mahesh said while replying to the allegations that he did not misbehave with the accused and his family when they met him on 13 April and would also hand over the CCTV footage from his house to the police. He said, "I don't want to interfere in the police investigation. I want the police to conduct a fair investigation. No written complaint was given to me by the family of the victim." |
