ControversyAccusations of engaging in fraudulent activities
In 2003, Ravindra Mahajani was apprehended by the authorities in Mumbai on charges related to fraudulent activities. Anil Damle, a partner at Saraswati Cinema, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) in 2002, alleging that Ravindra and Anil had entered into an agreement. As per the terms of the agreement, Ravindra was obligated to pay Anil Rs. 75,000 for the screening of his film Satte Sathi Kahihi at Prabhat Cinema Hall, which was operated by Saraswati Cinema, for a duration of one month (four weeks). The agreement also stipulated that the proceeds from ticket sales would be deducted from this amount. In case of any surplus, it would be given to Mahajani, but if there was a deficit, he would be responsible for compensating Damle. After the four-week period, it was discovered that Mahajani owed Damle Rs. 80,000. However, when Mahajani issued a check to Anil, it was dishonoured. In January 2003, Mahajani was granted bail by a court in Mumbai after posting a personal bond of Rs. 15,000 to a court in Maharashtra. [5]The Times of India
