- He was born in a family of medical practitioners.
- After completing his Ph. D. in Finance from NYU-Stern in 2001, he joined the London Business School and served there from 2001 to 2008.
- From 2007 to 2009, he served as the Academic Director of the Coller Institute of Private Equity at LBS.
- In the Summer of 2008, he served as the Senior Houblon-Normal Research Fellow at the Bank of England.
- According to NYU Stern School of Business website, his research interests are in the regulation of banks and financial institutions, corporate finance, credit risk and valuation of corporate debt, and asset pricing with a focus on the effects of liquidity risk.
- He considers the Ex. Governor of RBI, Raghuram Rajan, as his role model and has co-authored a number of journals with him. He once described himself as “poor man’s Raghuram Rajan.”
- In an interview, he revealed that once his co-passengers in a flight called him “Raghu Rajan.”
